You know the feeling when you’re so tired that you just want to cry and just too tired even to eat? It was a close day for that kind of day. But let me just tell you, I love working in the kitchen with these people. They are real, down to earth, friendly and fun since I’m always giggling every other minute. Perhaps by the end of this project, I may have learned more about this world that we live in then about cooking. One thing’s for sure, they cuss like its their job. Now, my ears are numb to cussing and sometimes I even catch myself saying those things in my head. But I always try to keep my mouth clean and decent because that’s what I was raised around. My parents have always spoken respectfully and I just don’t think it’s necessary to cuss personally. But the kitchen crew’s cussing give them such vibrant personality and strong self-expression and I really admire them for that. For the record, I have never ever said a cuss work except when I’m reading aloud. (please someone, help me rid underlining)
Breakfast was green monster. I’m getting addicted clearly. Almond milk, spinach, frozen banana and blueberries. It was super refreshing and sweet.

I’m a very habitual person. I really tried hard to sleep in this morning but I still woke up at 6:30am. Well part was because I literally sleep like a rock so when I wake up next morning half of my body is sore cause I haven’t moved in 8 hours. After breakfast, I whipped up regular chocolate chip cookie with white chocolate chip. I timed myself and from the time I reached for butter to the time I took the cookies out of the oven it was 40 minutes. Not too shabby hmmm?

I packed food for today’s function. Wedding! I’ve been waiting for this all week since this is such a more exciting and busy event then just a school banquet and such. Did you know, I’ve only been to two weddings? Both of them were two daughters from a family friend and they were absolutely beautiful weddings, one was at Muirfield and other one at downtown. Packed lots of food since I knew I was going to be working for a long time today from 11am-9pm. Almond butter on WW bread, greek yogurt, Nature Valley’s granola bars, thawed African sweet potato peanut soup, tomato and I think that’s it.

I made lots and lots of things today! I had a bridal tray of cheese and crackers, two cheese trays, salad toppings, Maryland style crab cakes (!!!), remoulade sauce for the cakes, did some turkey crostini and (drumroll) cut the wedding cake. And yes, I made all of those crab cakes and more but I didn’t mind first because this job is still relatively new and second it was therapeutic making the same thing over and over again into little patties.

Of course, what is cooking without sampling. I had a couple chunks of cheese, a few cheese spread with crackers, three delicious crab cakes, a ton of pineapple with a honey dipping sauce, and one of those ceprese crostini. Yum.

You know, before when I went to those two weddings, I knew it take a ton of energy and time to make all the hor c’devours and entrees but I never understood the real meaning of putting food together until this. I always say, I found a sense of appreciation for service people when I started to work at Graeter's but now it’s ten fold. My back ache, my mind is fuzzy, feet sore, knee hurt but I understand now. I may never experience what it’s truly like to have a permanent job like this. However, this sense of understanding, appreciation and meaning I will hold dear to me because it is these people’s work that keeps the world going round and round.
ya wendy! keep it up. i'm glad your getting to use your mad cooking skills for fun events, but more importantly, i like reading your insights into life as a cook and worker.
