What's In My Shopping Cart

I'm tired but I still woke up early this morning. Sweet juicy pineapple and blueberry greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is the food fad right now I suppose. It's super thick and creamy and most has over 20grams of protein.
See what I mean? Super yummy :)
I really like to go grocery shopping on Sunday morning, the earlier the better. First very close parking spot. Second, the produce is all stocked, the freshest and hasn't been picked over. Third, absolutely no crowd to navigate around. Lastly, no line in the checkout lane. It's fantastic. By the way, my mom usually does the shopping but when I need or want something in greater numbers, it's easier to do it myself. People have asked, how is Chinese people skinny? Well, that's not really the case now with all the western influence of McDonald, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc... And right now, the parents generation have suffered so much from the Culture Revolution that they dote on their only child buying them the popular high calorie snacks and meals. But in general, much of Chinese people's diet consist of all type of grains and lots and lots of veggies and fruit. Not much meat or dairy. In fact, I've never seen anything like steaks served in China...
So what do we eat? Since I bought everything here, my mom actually buys slightly differently from me. Also, everything here was from meijer and my mom actually goes to all different stores such as Asian grocers and Whole Foods.

Munched on an apple
I. love. eggs.
Scrambled eggs with cherry tomatoes and shredded cheese. Lots of crackers. In fact I snacked on an entire plate this afternoon. It's so addicting.
Part of my project is to cook for myself for the majority of these couple weeks. Usually my mom cooks a three dish dinner with rice and sometimes 4 dishes and soup. Yah, pretty much every night. She's the best. I love her. I saw African Sweet Potato and Peanut Stew on graduatemeghann and it look so good. Don't worry, I did burn the onion in the pot but didn't burn the house down.
Lots of spice
Adding the peanut butter melted in some of the soup's liquid
After simming for 30 minutes
Dinner :) It was very fragrant and delicious. I love how the caramelized onion and sweet potato made the soup slightly sweet and the peanut butter was just over the top. I'm drooling as I type... I didn't follow a specific recipe but just the general idea of making this soup. Google it. Make it. You will not regret it.
I couldn't help having some dinner my mom cooked. One of have fav is just plain tofu dipped in soy cause, Chinese vinegar and hot sauce. People complain how boring tofu is but...that's the point. Tofu is so versatile. It gives you a blank canvas to work with and it soaks up any flavor. Okay, blogging is taking forever. Going to grab a snack. Peace out.
